Somali Pirates have Real Estates Businesses outside Somalia!
Somali piracy bloomed starting from the 21st century. However, it began in the early 1990s.
It started first as operations to stop some ships that fish illegally or dump toxic waste in Somali waters. However, the piracy business evolved to become a multi-million dollars business they invest in real estates in Kenya, some other places and fund financial projects made by the big bosses abroad.
Here are some ships the Somali pirates have captured lately:
Somali Pirates attacked the US-flagged Maersk Alabama two times in 2009.
Somali pirates seized the Panamanian Navios Apollon and the British-flagged St. James Park in the Gulf of Aden on 2009.
Somali pirates hijacked North Korean cargo ship on February 2010.
Somali pirates seized the Maran Centaurus and released the ship after a ransom is paid.
US Navy seized eight pirates off the Somali coast.
Somali pirates captured 8 Indian boats and more than 100 Indian sailors.
Somali pirates hijacked the MV Faina, a ship carrying 33 Soviet-era battle tanks to Kenya on September 25, 2008.
News says that suspected Somali pirates arrested on piracy charges and held in some prisons in Kenya. Most of the arrested Somali pirates are illiterate young Somalis who have no idea about the operations they joined. They do not know how much ransom is paid for the ships they hijacked.
There is evidence that pirates' money has been invested in real estate businesses in Kenya. News says new buildings and housing run by real estates in Eastleigh started with the Somali piracy and flourish by piracy money.
