Darfur Crisis is Social Crisis!

The Darfur Crisis is a Social Crisis - One of Health and Nutrition!

I was in Darfur in September 2009 to conduct a health and food security assessment in West Darfur. As part of the assessment, I made comparisons in the health, food, water and food security situation over the past five years.

While some aid has certainly made a difference, there are areas, such as infant mortality, deaths in childbirth, and infant nutritional health that still require attention because the improvements are slight and are not widespread.

In the article, "Comprehensive Solution for Darfur Crisis", it states that the Sudanese Communist Party (SCP) has consistently emphasized that the crisis in Darfur is a political, social and economical problems.

I agree that the crisis is indeed social - in terms of social services (such as health, nutrition, and education). It is also a crisis in the local government's ability to provide extensive social services (including safe drinking water, water for stock, and hygiene) for the people of Darfur.

Elections with the involvement and participation of all people from Darfur are a critical part of the solution to the crisis.
